Doing this cleanse for the third time, I am surprised by two things. First, the cleanse is going much better than when I had previously attempted it. I guess that is one of the benefits of living a healthier lifestyle, eating more whole foods, removing toxins from my environment, and using high-quality supplements, There is less to detox so I have had fewer uncomfortable symptoms. I did experience being tired the first few days, especially on day three.
The second thing that I'm surprised by is how much I think about food! Yikes! My comfort foods: coffee, ice cream, bread, potatoes, are not available for me to soothe myself when I'm struggling with an uncomfortable emotion. Going to get a treat because I deserve it, I've had a hard day, I'm feeling lonely, I feel unworthy… Is not possible on this cleanse. My thoughts drift to sitting in the coffee shop, taking my grandkids for ice cream or having a pastry at the bakery. Then I remember the choice I am making. Nope!
It's that time again! Time for me to clean out my plumbing and get all systems running more efficiently. I'm not talking about home repairs, but doing a cleanse for my body. I particularly like the Clean Gut cleanse, and so I'm doing this for the third time. It is a 21 day cleanse (see this previous post) that is designed to heal the gut, repairing any leaks, and getting the little colonies of bacteria and microbes functioning better in our intestinal environment.
Interestingly, I am also doing a spending fast, so going out is not in the cards right now. So what do I do instead? One thing I have been enjoying immensely has been walking down to the bay, sitting on a swing by the water and just relaxing while I chat with God. I have found that I look forward to this time and am experiencing less draw toward my previous treats.
I know it is important to deal with stress in more productive ways, using essential oils like Stress Away and Peace & Calming, exercise, getting good sleep, drinking water. The cleanse forces me to create new, healthier habits, and for this I am grateful.
