It's that time again! Time for me to clean out my plumbing and get all systems running more efficiently. I'm not talking about home repairs, but doing a cleanse for my body. I particularly like the Clean Gut cleanse, and so I'm doing this for the third time. It is a 21 day cleanse (see this previous post) that is designed to heal the gut, repairing any leaks, and getting the little colonies of bacteria and microbes functioning better in our intestinal environment.
Here we go! Many of you are joining me for our New Year, New You cleanse/detox journey which officially begins now. Each of us has chosen our preferred cleanse or detox program, several of which have been discussed in a previous post on this website, I hope to have several of my fellow detoxers share their experiences with you too.
Detoxing or doing a cleanse is something I do several times a year and get great benefit from. Doing the Master Cleanse is what started my journey to losing 45 pounds and choosing to live the healthier version of myself. Not yet convinced you want to join us? 1.Cleansing "takes out the trash" -cells release unwanted invaders, foreign or unnatural substances that have accumulated due to our environment, poor food choices, stress and more.
2.Cleansing helps purify the colon, strengthening the colony of good bacteria & microorganisms and rebalancing unhealthy bacteria or microorganisms. Some cleanses will add probiotics and other gut supplements to their program.
3.Cleansing can eliminate food triggers for a time, giving the body a rest from allergic reactions and allowing the immune system to strengthen.
4.During most cleanses, you will save money on groceries by avoiding expensive processed foods and snacks. Keep it simple.
5.Cleansing helps to break the food addiction cycle as additives, chemicals, flavorings, dyes a are eliminated from incoming foods and released from cells during the cleanse.
6.Cleansing helps to "reset" the taste buds so a greater diversity of flavors is enjoyed. Cleansing helped me fall in love with veggies and healthy foods.
7.Cleansing or detoxing, depending on the program, challenges me to try new recipes.
8.Cleansing and detoxing will often increase energy, as digestion is simplified and improved.
9.Cleansing often creates a greater sensitivity to the body's signals and needs.

It may seem a bit early to be talking about the New Year and ideas for detoxing, cleansing and setting ourselves up for a healthier 2015. We are still in the throws of parties and celebrations, rich foods and crazy stress. How can we focus on this now?
I believe that our success in getting off to a great start in 2015, or whenever you might be reading this, will be in large part due to our planning ahead. You've heard the statement, "Failing to plan is planning to fail." Taking a few moments to decide what steps you would like to take in January to champion your health goals can be a very fruitful activity. And let's face it, most of us will need a bit of a reset after all the parties, buffets, treats, lack of exercise and increased stress.
Will you do a cleanse or detox of some sort? I have used many different cleanses and detoxes and my favorites are the Master Cleanse (The Complete Master Cleanse by Tom Woloshyn, shares how to use essential oils while doing this cleanse), the 5 day nutritive cleanse from Young Living (which uses Balance Complete or Power Meal, NingXia Red and Digest & Cleanse capsules), and the Clean Gut cleanse which I did this fall and found to be very effective. I shared some of my experiences in this blog. For the recommended supplements, I used Young Living's equivalent products with great results.

Starting in January, several of us have decided to do the Clean Gut program. I am going to do this cleanse again (see September posts on my first time doing the Clean Gut cleanse) as I believe it will benefit me to continue to strengthen my gut health and repair any other "leaks" or colon issues accumulated during my first 50 years of poor habits. I want to continue to improve absorption of nutrients and the elimination of toxins. I want to balance yeast and good bacteria and helpful organisms. At our fall conference in November, I gave a talk on the basic steps of supporting the body using natural means. The philosophies of Hippocrates, Gary Young and others state that the body is an incredible miracle and is responsible for healing itself. Drugs don't heal. Bandages don't heal. Even essential oils don't actually heal. It is what the body does with these substances, or how they assist the body in doing its job, that brings about healing.
During the upcoming week, I plan to share parts of my talk with you. I encourage you to embrace the reality that we are largely responsible for our health based on what we are feeding our cells (by way of our stomachs), what toxins we are allowing into our bodies, and how well we are managing our stress and physical activity. We each need to work in partnership with our body if we want to experience vibrant health.
Overcoming health challenges will require a plan of action utilizing wholesome foods, natural remedies and other lifestyle changes. It is possible. It is miraculous. We just have to cooperate with the miracle.

Here are a few of my symptoms from my first week: a hoarse voice, dry cough and a metal taste on my tongue for a week, feeling more tired and just a bit "yuk" all throughout the day. My pH has been very acidic and (pardon my pirate) my bloomin' arss was on fire for several days. Today I woke and noticed that my skin feels incredible, my energy level is better and my throat is improving. I think I may have turned a corner.
