This week a friend gave me a small bouquet of flowers that she had picked from her garden. When she handed them to me she apologized that they were very sad looking and a bit wilted. She was afraid they would not brighten my day the way she had hoped, but they certainly did.
Every time I look at them I feel a warmth and gratitude. Her thoughtfulness really blessed me.
How often do we take the time to bless another? How often do we really allow ourselves to experience the gratitude of small blessings throughout our day?
I have been listening to The Edge, by Tony Robbins. He is challenging me to begin each day with a power hour that includes exercise, deep breathing, 10 minutes of gratitude and speaking words of power into your life. "My life is blessed!" and "I will bless others." are my morning incantations, said out loud (but softly, so no one thinks I'm crazy) for 10 minutes as I am walking.
I am amazed how this focuses my day and helps to remove the negativity that I can sometimes feel during the day. When I feel negative thoughts creeping in, I simply state (our loud if possible) that "My life is blessed!"
Here are some great quotes on gratitude from a variety of people.

“To be grateful is to recognize the Love of God in everything He has given us - and He has given us everything. Every breath we draw is a gift of His love, every moment of existence is a grace, for it brings with it immense graces from Him.
Gratitude therefore takes nothing for granted, is never unresponsive, is constantly awakening to new wonder and to praise of the goodness of God. For the grateful person knows that God is good, not by hearsay but by experience. And that is what makes all the difference.”
― Thomas Merton
“Gratitude can transform common days into thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings.” —”
― William Arthur Ward
“[Gratitude] turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity...it makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.”
― Melody Beattie
These are just some of the things I am grateful for today. What are you grateful for today?
