Sometimes I let things that should not be that important become too important to me. I believe God should be the top of the list, highest priority and most cultivated relationship in my life. There are times when I realize that other things have begun to creep up the scale: appetite, comforts, the opinion of others, pride, money or the security that I think it will bring, other pleasures, trying to be in control of situations or people, or even trying to manage my own life without really asking God for His daily direction.
Pope Francis shared a quote that confirmed the stirrings in me to face my own idolatry. He states,
"I am sure none of us stands before a tree to worship it as an idol..none of us keeps statues to adore at home. [But] idolatry is subtle; we have our hidden idols, and the road through life to arrive at the Kingdom of God...entails unearthing hidden idols." Pope Francis, June 6, 2013
