Who doesn't love the colors, crispness and celebrations of fall? It is a delightful time of pumpkins, jumping in leaves and focusing on gratitude and loved ones. Staying healthy to enjoy all the richness of fall is a priority for me. That's why I am extra generous at this time of the year with my favorite essential oils, immune boosting supplements and healthy foods that are ripe for the picking and fresh in autumn.
Essential oils that are on hand for me in this season are the immune boosing Thieves and Immupower oil blends (rub on soles of the feet or diffuse) and Thieves vitality (add a drop to warm water with peppermint and lemon vitality oils for a delightful "tea") I love the way Raven , RC and Breath Again oil blends feel when rubbed on the chest and under the nose. Delightful and soothing.
What are the memories you associate with autumn? Does the smell of wet leaves and musty air, the aroma of cooking apples, or the pungent odor of a crackling bonfire bring you back to times of laughter and security? Does the smell of cinnamon, pine or pumpkin make you smile?
Whether that is your experience or not, it is never too late to create these kinds of memories for your own children, grandchildren, or the people in your life.
With smells in mind, I offer a few fun and festive recipes that are healthy, delightful and memorable. Let me know what you think of them.

Preheat oven to 425 F.

We all understand that it is better to pay our bills on time then to pay late fees. We grasp the wisdom in planning our vacation ahead of time rather than showing up with kids and luggage to discover their are no hotel rooms available.
When it comes to our health and happiness, we have this same choice. We can spend our time, energy, and financial resources being proactive and building up our bodies and immune system, or we can spend hours in doctors offices, take drugs (that have harmful side-effects and only manage symptoms) and lose time at the office, school, or enjoying life.
Am I stating that if you live the wellness lifestyle you will never get sick? Of course not! However, my own experience, and that of others I've worked with, is that I am rarely sick. On the few occasions that I have been grabbed by a sinus issue or a seasonal intruder, I have been able to support my body through the challenge naturally. I help my body do what it does best, heal, by giving it ammunition it can use effectively. I am in and out of the battle in record time. Am I saying you will never need a prescription or medical procedure? Absolutely not, but most people would be excited to minimize them.
If this makes sense to you, then consider creating a wellness strategy this fall. Here are some simple steps to help you create your battle plan.

At the age of 56, I am experiencing my first sprained ankle. Pretty crazy, right? I guess in some ways I've been pretty fortunate.
What has been amazing to me has been sitting with my ankle propped up and watching as the body works its miracle. There is nothing any doctor, medication or exercise can do to heal the injury. Only the body can actually do that. Isn't that fascinating? It blows my mind to think about. Our body is just as stunning and spectacular as any natural wonder or gorgeous sunset.
Of course, there are things I can do to assist my body to heal my sprained ankle, such as rest, ice, compress, and elevate. I can also pack in good nutrition by juicing, drinking NingXia Red and green smoothies, and eating lots of salads. This will help nourish the cells of my body, reduce acidity, supply antioxidants and boost my immune system.
Using pure, potent essential oils has also brought me comfort and delight. From the first moment I fell down the hill and injured my ankle, I've been putting essential oils on my foot, ankle and calf. I always carry them with me. My favorites have been PanAway, Wintergreen, Copaiba, Deep Relief and Purification. I've taken epson salt baths with oils added, and this refreshes and renews me.
Do you ever wish you could do a moment over again? This past weekend, my youngest son and I decided in the spur of the moment (less than 24 hours) to go to Arizona to see Sedona, the Grand Canyon and Monument Valley. We had discussed it previously, and even looked at flights and places to stay, but thought we both had too much on the calendar to make it possible. His important work commitment shifted a week, and my calendar looked rather flexible, so we jumped on the chance to take the trip.
I was excited to be able to spend time with my son while doing something on my bucket list. When we arrived, late the next evening, I was still in a bit of shock that we had really made the trip happen. The next morning, we headed to Sedona in our bright orange convertible to do some hiking and the weather was absolutely perfect. Everything seemed to be going amazingly well.
We chose a trail to hike and I tried to keep up with my athletic son. At one point, he decided to hike up a hill, off the beaten path. I followed a short ways up the hill and then decided I would let him hike the rest of the way up, while I waited in a small patch of shade under a scrubby tree. Sedona is a desert, after all. He was gone for a while and when he returned, we started down the hill to return to the trail and head back to the trail head, some three miles away.
